Folkfika — Stories Through Time
The name Folkfika has its roots in two Swedish traditions:
“Folk” is inspired by the late 19th & early 20th-century “folkhem” movement — a vision of equality, community, & mutual support among people.
“Fika” comes from the Swedish cultural tradition that emerged in the early 1900s, particularly within the working class. It was during fika breaks — moments of rest & socialising — that stories were shared & histories came to life.
From these two worlds of ideas, Folkfika was born — a company where storytelling is at the heart.
Ash & My
We are storytellers. Married in both life & work. With a deep passion for photography & filmmaking, & years of experience in these fields, we strive to create new stories inspired by the aesthetics of the late 19th & early 20th-century working-class era, embracing the rustic & antique.
Through our work, we craft narratives that unite past & present. We strongly believe that every object carries a soul. We capture the raw, the timeless, & the organic — moments that evoke emotion.
Folkfika is about collectively preserving, retelling, & creating new stories.
In a world of mass production, we want to highlight the genuine. We believe that human connection & authenticity create the best stories. Our goal is to create something that feels familiar & nostalgic — a sense of home, whether through our images, films, or curated objects in our shop.
Welcome home, to Folkfika.
